Alaska oversize/overweight permits are valid for 3 consecutive days.

Operation Time

Travel is only permitted during daylight hours (one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunset), Monday through Saturday. Loads within the legal width limit, no more than 15’ tall, and 75’ long may travel anytime. In addition, loads up to 10’ wide may travel weekends. Loads over 10’ wide may travel until 12:00 noon on Saturdays. Sunday travel is restricted.

Escorts

ESCORT FLAGS, SIGNS AND LIGHTS

“Oversize” signs are required on any oversize load. Flags are required on overwidth loads or vehicles as well as on overhangs. However, signs and flags are not required for loads that are only overweight.

Restricted Travel

No movement for oversize loads 7:00–8:00 a.m. and 4:30–6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau urban areas. No movement 6:00–8:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. and 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Anchorage urban area north of Palmer and Wasilla for loads over 14’ wide.

Ketchikan: no movement from 7:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m., 12 p.m.–1:00 p.m., and 4:30–6:00 p.m.

Palmer/Wasilla Area: no movement from 6:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. and 4:40–6:00 p.m. when over 14’ wide or slow moving vehicles traveling slower than 25 mph.

From October 1 through April 15, weekend and holiday restrictions do not apply from Fairbanks north on the Steese, Elliot, and Dalton Highways.
