1. Single-Trip Permits

  • Oversize/Overweight – Valid for 5 days.
  • House Move General – Valid for 7 days.
  • Manufactured Housing – Valid for 5 days.
  • Portable Building – Valid for 5 days.
  • Self-Propelled Off-Road Equipment – Valid for 5 days.
  • Super Heavy – Valid for 10 days.
  • Well Servicing Unit (S/P Mileage) – Valid for 7 days.
  • Crane (S/P Mileage) – Valid for 7 days.

2. Multi-Trip Permits

  • 30/60/90 Day Length – Applies to loads 8’6″ wide, 14′ tall, 25′ in the front overhang, 30′ in the rear overhang, and in 110′ overall length.

  • 30/60/90 Day Width – Applies to loads that are 13′ wide and 14′ tall.

3. Annual Permits

  • Annual Overlength – 8’6″ wide, 14′ height, 25′ front overhang, 30′ rear overhang, 110′ overall length, up to the legal weight limit.

  • Crane Annual – 10′ wide, 14′ height, up to the legal length limit, 120,000 lbs. GVW, 25,000 lbs. single axle, 46,000 lbs. tandem axle, 60,000 lbs. tridem axle, 70,000 lbs. 4-axle, 81,400 lbs. 5-axle.

  • Cylindrical Bales of Hay Annual – 12′ wide, 14′ height, up to the legal length limit, up to the legal weight limit.

  • Envelope Company Specific Annual –  Any non-divisible load: 12′ wide, 14′ height, 110′ length, 25′ front overhang, 30′ rear overhang, 120,000 lbs. GVW.

  • Envelope Truck Specific Annual –  Any non-divisible load: 12′ wide, 14′ height, 110′ length, 25′ front overhang, 30′ rear overhang, 120,000 lbs. GVW.

  • Fluid Milk Transport – The truck-tractor and semitrailer combination must have 6 axles, 90,000 lbs. GVW.

  • Implement of Husbandry – Implements of Husbandry (non-divisible): 16′ wide, 16′ high, 110 ‘ long, 25′ front overhang, 30’ rear overhang, up to the legal weight limit.

  • Manufactured housing annual – 20′ wide, 16′ high, 110′ long.

  • Ready-Mixed Concrete Truck Permit – Max – 69,000 lbs. (max single-axle weight of 25,300 pounds and tandem-axle weight of 50,600 pounds).

  • Timber permit – Max – 84,000 lbs. Applicant may only select from counties named in the most recent Texas A&M Forest Service’s Harvest Trend Report.

4. Intermodal Shipping Container Port

  • Intermodal Shipping Container Port – This is the permit needed for the transport of intermodal shipping containers. They are transported in Texas within 30 miles of select port authorities. These ports of entry may be located in counties contiguous to the Gulf of Mexico or a bay or inlet opening into the gulf. Max – 93,000 lbs. for 6 axles, 100,000 lbs. for 7 axles.

  • North Texas Intermodal – This permit is for the transport of intermodal shipping containers transported in Bowie County on US71/US59 from the Arkansas state border to the eastbound entrance ramp for IH49, and which do not exceed legal size limits. Max – 93,000 lbs.

Operating Time: One-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset, including Saturday and Sunday. Loads not exceeding 10 feet wide, 14 feet tall, or 100 feet long with a legal front and rear overhang may travel at night only on the Interstate System. Overweight-only may have continuous movement.

Loads exceeding these dimensions are considered superloads. The state will propose a route that we are then required to survey physically and sign-off on. Over 254,000 lbs. or over 200,000 lbs. with less than 95′ of axle spacing are considered super heavy loads, which require several weeks to be approved.

SIGNS, FLAGS & LIGHTS

Signs are only required on escort vehicles. Red flags should be placed on all extremities.

RESTRICTED TRAVEL

Time restrictions are noted on the permit; all major cities are restricted (Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Lubbock, Austin, Beaumont, San Antonio, El Paso, Vidor, and Wichita Falls) from 7:00-9:00 A.M. and 4:00-6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday, there is no movement during hazardous road conditions or when visibility is less than 2/10th of a mile. City and county curfew times are now listed on the permit. Travel is allowed on major holidays depending on the dimensions.
