1. Single-Trip Permit

2. Multiple-Trip Permit

  • 6-Day Permit – This allows you to travel on all State, US, and Interstate Highways. Maximum permits extend to 2 adjacent counties.

3. Annual Permits

  • 57-Foot Trailer
  • Farm Machinery/Equipment Dealer
  • Limited Permit for Cross Ties – Max 85,000 lbs.; can travel on all State and US Highways within 100 miles of the base origin. Not valid on interstates.
  • Overlength Crane over 35 Mile Radius – Can travel 35+ miles from the origin All-State, US, and Interstate Highways.
  • Overweight Livestock Feed – Max 85,000 lbs. State Highways only. Travel is not allowed on Interstate Highways, weight-restricted highways, or posted bridges.
  • Sealed Containerized Cargo – Max 90,000 lbs., vehicle-specific. Must travel on the same route.
  • Specific Cargo – Max 10’8″ width.
  • Towing and Recovery of Disabled Vehicles – Valid for all State and Interstate Highways. This permit authorizes the movement of a combination of vehicles to exceed the maximum size and weight limits imposed by law. A towing and recovery license is required.
  • Water Well Overlength Vehicle over 35 Mile Radius – All-State, US, and Interstate Highways.
OPERATING TIME

Drivers with the proper permits should operate during daylight hours (sunrise to sunset for Arkansas), seven days a week. Continuous travel may be allowed for overweight-only loads under 108,000 lbs. Loads no longer than 90’ long (as long as other dimensions are legal) may travel continuously.

WEEKEND TRAVEL

Permits may be issued for the movement of overdimensional loads on Arkansas highways on Saturday and Sunday. This does not apply to holiday weekends. Mobile homes cannot travel on Sundays.

Overhang
  • Up to 53’6″ trailer/load is allowed without a permit.
  • 60’ poles, pipes, machinery, steel beams, or other objects of a structural nature do not require a permit for daylight travel for up to 90’ overall length.
  • Night travel requires a permit.

If long beams are on a stretch trailer and do not extend beyond the rear of the trailer, then a permit is required.

Length No limits are set for the permit.
Height 17’ (Over 16’ must obtain special approval, and are not allowed on Interstates. Utility personnel must accompany loads over 17’.)

SIGN, FLAGS, AND LIGHTS

  • “Oversize Load” signs are needed on all loads that exceed legal height, length, or width limits.
  • Red flags (18″ square) are required on rear corners on all loads that exceed legal width, height, or length limits.
  • There are no sign or flag rules for overweight-only loads.

RESTRICTED TRAVEL

Movement is not allowed during inclement weather when climate conditions make the movement unsafe. Secondary highways are restricted to 40 mph and may be posted for a lesser weight. No oversize movement through the greater Little Rock area from 7:00-9:00 A.M. and 4:00-6:00 P.M. on Interstate 30-M.M. 137-143, Interstate 40-M.M. 151-155, and all of Interstate 630. Also, no overwidth vehicle shall follow within 1,000 feet of another overwidth vehicle.
