Superloads are classified as any vehicles when the load is:

  • Over 120,000 lbs.
  • 120’ or more in length
  • 15’ or more in width
  • 15’ or more in height

When carrying long logs, poles, piling, and other overlength articles, a pole trailer is required.

On Interstate and Designated Highways – 53’ semi-trailers. 70’ poles, steel, etc. including 5’ rear overhang are legal. Shall not extend more than 10’ beyond rear.

SIGNS & FLAGS

Warning signs are required for all oversize movements. “Oversize Load” signs are to be displayed on all vehicles and loads exceeding legal width, length, or rear overhang. Flags are required at the extremities of all overwidth loads. On loads with a rear overhang of more than 4′, one flag is required at the extreme rear of the load if it is 2′ wide or less; two flags are required if it is wider than 2′. Remember, you are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of any permits you are running on, for following the rules pertaining to them, and for having any additional provisions or condition sheets required.

RESTRICTED TRAVEL

No travel on New Years’, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Movement stops at 12:00 p.m. the day before a holiday. Movement resumes after 12:00 p.m. the day afterward. Ask the Permit Office to verify, as these restrictions may vary year-to-year.
