MATTHEWS, Missouri — Multiple Missouri teams fighting the fire that left a truck stop in ashes.

 

The incident occurred around 11:40 A.M. on June 3, 2018 at Flying J truck stop in Matthews, Missouri. The building was located right off I-55 and exit 58.

 

According to Fox 19, Matthews Volunteer Fire Department arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke and flames roaring from the north side of the building.

 

A plethora of crews showed up to assist Matthews FD in the battle. Sikeston, Dexter, Miner, Portageville, Scott County Rural and New Madrid County all contributed.

 

The New Madrid Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Stoddard County EMS, and New Madrid County EMS also arrived at the scene.

 

The building was completely taken out by the fire. After becoming buried in flames, the roof caved in, leaving only sections of the exterior walls intact.

 

Multiple crewmen suffered heat exhaustion, but no other injuries were reported.

 

The officials are investigating the possible causes of the fire.
