The first all-electric driverless freight truck was unveiled on Wednesday. Volvo Trucks is the world’s second-biggest heavy-duty truck maker after Daimler Trucks.

The new semi-truck Volvo’s Vera has no driver’s cabin and looks like a semi-truck tractor pod or a flat Tesla S with space for just the powertrain and the battery pack.

This is what makes Volvo’s Vera stand out from any other semi –truck.

Michael Karlsson, vice-president of Autonomous Solutions at Volvo Trucks mentioned that the truck is designed to be safe, quiet and predictable, and, in fact, impossible to drive.

‘’Nothing similar to what you have seen from us before’’, said Michael Karlsson.

Although Vera is designed to use for short distances such as in ports, factory areas and mega-logistics centers, the truck producers assume it could be used for long-distance trucking.

In 1980s Stein winter Supercargo truck failed, because of poor driver visibility and difficult handling. New sensor technologies will not face the same problem anymore.

New Volvo Vera or the Swedish startup Einride’s T-Pod and T-log are the future of driverless trucks. It’s really useless to have a driver’s cabin when there is no driver.
